Since 1868, the Forstreiter family has been dedicated to winemaking in Hollenburg, near Krems in Austria. Today, the estate is run by Meinhard Forstreiter and his wife Isabella, combining centuries of tradition with a forward-thinking, sustainable approach. Parts of the cellar date back more than 300 years, serving as a symbol of lasting values.

Sustainability from the heart
At Weingut Forstreiter, wine is more than a product — it is a reflection of nature, heritage, and care for the land. Every day, Meinhard tends to the vineyards personally, working in harmony with the environment. The family practices natural viticulture with minimal intervention and has been proudly certified with the Austrian sustainability label “Nachhaltig Austria” since 2019.

“I make the wines I enjoy drinking myself,” says Meinhard Forstreiter. This personal approach ensures authenticity and top quality. From pruning the vines to bottling, the family is involved in every step — a rare level of hands-on commitment in today’s wine industry.

Vineyards with a soul
The vineyards surrounding Hollenburg grow on diverse soils, especially the unique limestone-rich Hollenburg conglomerate. This special terroir gives the wines a distinct mineral character. The Grüner Veltliners from old, ungrafted vines in Ried Tabor are particularly rare and highly regarded.

Characterful Austrian wines
Forstreiter’s flagship wines are expressive Grüner Veltliners — from fresh and herbal to creamy and full-bodied. They are joined by elegant Rieslings, Gelber Muskateller, Sauvignon Blanc, and velvety reds like Zweigelt and St. Laurent.
