For those eager to explore the country’s vineyards in greater detail, there’s good news. Austrian Wine in cooperation with the University of Vienna recently launched the Austrian vineyard viewer, the world’s first digital wine atlas covering the entire wine-producing nation, providing curious drinkers with an unparalleled tool for further exploration and discovery.

 

A year in the life of a winegrower

“Living with the vines” is the Austrian winegrowers’ maxim – because behind every bottle of wine lie months of work and countless manual interventions. Year in year out, winegrowers passionately devote themselves to this challenge – from pruning to harvest, from pressing the grapes to finally serving their wines in the Heurige or Buschenschank (wine taverns). The result of their labour is a unique product of high cultural value: wine from Austria.

Austrian Wine is a service organization based in Vienna and dedicated to supporting the Austrian wine industry. It was founded in 1986 to facilitate and coordinate the strategic efforts of the Austrian wine industry in promoting quality and sales. The Austrian Wine umbrella brand provides a common presence for the nation’s aggregate of individual winegrowers, brand associations and winegrowing regions. Domestically, its goal is to claim the various market segments for Qualitätswein (quality wine) on a grand scale. Austrian Wine also aims to increase the export volume of bottled wines, to which end the creation of value added is a focal point.
